A New way to Meet Strangers

Today, people are finding it harder and harder to meet new people.  This is often because people don’t get out anymore and try to stay home or limit themselves to outside physical contact.  The Internet has made it possible for many of us to stay indoors and do everything over our computers.  You can work for a company without ever leaving your home.  You can take care of all of your bills online, watch movies, listen to music, play games, and order almost any kind of food you might like.  There is almost no limit to what you can do on the Internet.

A new service available to the Internet generation is Omegle.  Omegle.com was created by an eighteen-year-old high school student who has been writing programs for a little while.  Back in March of 2009, Leif K-Brooks of Vermont launched a new service that pairs up people who visit the web site with another stranger.  You don’t have to create a profile, or user name.  Just click on start a new connection and you are on your way to meeting someone new.  The site promises just that with its slogan, ‘talk to strangers!’

On the site, you can carry on a conversation or disconnect from the stranger chat at any time.  There is no pressure like one might find on some sites to meet people.  The creator of the website was looking for an interesting way to allow people to meet other people that you may have nothing in common with.  Sometimes total strangers you meet in real life can become one of your best friends in real life.  So why shouldn’t you try it online?

K-Brooks believes that the Internet interactions were becoming stagnant and hoped to create a situation where many different people could have access to other different people.  The best way to learn is to learn from someone who knows things different from what you know or has an outlook that may be different from yours.

The idea of the site is to have fun.  There are considerations to take into account as of course, cyber predators may show up on the site and there is no accountability like some other sites have.  Everything is supposed to be anonymous.  When the user is not worried about their handle or account being traced, they are more inclined to open up and be a little wild.  Unfortunately, there are those who will take advantage of such a situation.
