Nutrients are very essential for our health and functions of our body, just like minerals. Most of them serve their individual purposes but a better way to ensure that they function properly is that they work or function together with other Vitamins, minerals and other substances in our body like enzymes. Some most important processes in our body are when they combine with each other and achieve the required processes, affects and functions.
Nutrients are measured in metric units. For proteins, fats and carbohydrates the unit is grams and for <a href=”http://www.rightvita.com/nutrition/nutrition.html”>vitamins</a> and minerals it is milligrams and micrograms.
One gram is equal to 0.035 ounces and one kilogram is equal to 2.2 pounds. The nutrition which is labeled on the packaged foods is referred to as grams of fat, carbohydrate and protein.
There are some recommended amounts of nutrients which are essential for a normal person. Specific age, gender and activity level is not considered.
.
The main source of energy is carbohydrates. The fuel required for our body is provided by the carbohydrates. Our brain requires it in order to function properly.
There are many types of carbohydrates like:
Simple carbohydrates: They are also known as saccharides or sugar. Not only is it present in the sugar and in the cereals but also in the fruits, milk and the vegetables. Some other simple carbohydrates are lactose, fructose, sucrose, maltose and dextrose. Then they are converted into glucose, which is commonly known as blood sugar.
Complex carbohydrates: They are also known as starches. Fruits, vegetables, grains and grain products, dairy products and beans all contain complex carbohydrates. As they are made p of more complex molecules, therefore it takes the body longer time to break down these foods.
Cellulose: It is also known as fiber. The human body cannot digest it all as it is so exceedingly complex.

For an adult, a balanced diet should draw at least 55 to 60 percent of its calories from carbohydrates, with more of complex carbohydrates.
Each gram supplies a minimum of 4 calories. The animals get 4 calories out of a gram of grass, but as human beings cannot digest fiber it provides zero calories to us.
Fiber has a lot of benefits. Although it lacks in the calories content but curbs ones hunger. As it is indigestible, it sticks in the body for a long period of time. This is the reason you feel full when you have a sweet or something which contains sugar in it.
25 to 30 grams of fiber should be present in your daily diet.
Therefore you should have a healthy diet which is full of nutrients and is a balanced one in order to ensure a proper working body.
