Ski helmet usage is growing at a fast rate possibly down to high profile incidents where sadly deaths have occurred or possible now that there are ranges of helmets to suit all types.
Britain and much of Europe
is currently suffering from a cold snap with temperatures heading well below
zero. There have been many stories of
the problems it has caused however what about the benefits. I headed up to
Glenshee last Sunday and have never seen the mountains so white before, there were
only small patches of heather popping through. While I had fun I did notice
many more people wearing ski helmets this time than when I was there last,
which was around two years ago.
Coming back I did think
about how strange it was that we haven’t being wearing them all this time.
After all skaters and cyclists wear helmets and have done for a considerable
amount of time. While you could argue the dangers associated with those sports/hobbies
are greater than skiing, there have been several high profile cases of
accidents and deaths from not wearing head protection, Natasha Richardson sadly
died recently while skiing in Quebec, Canada.
Maybe
the reason many don’t wear a ski helmet is it's not seen as cool. However that
may all change now that Vladimir Putin has reportedly been seen sporting a ski
helmet. For the fashion conscious Poc ski helmets are a top end stylish brand offering a good
range of helmets to choose from, so seriously next time I go skiing I would
like to invest in a decent ski-helmet and would suggest you do too, after all
its a small price to pay to protect your head from brain injury or even
terminal injury and allows your family not to worry about your safety.
