You can use Exchange Server SP2 version of Migration Wizard for migrating mailboxes from servers in an organization to a separate Exchange Server environment. However, the Migration Wizard is not a fully-featured account migration tool. There is a set of task that Lotus Notes does not perform:

  • Clean up or remove mailboxes in the organization. The original mailboxes in the source organization continue receiving message even after the migration process is complete. You need to delete the original mailboxes or configure other recipients that point to new mailboxes hosted in the target Exchange organization.

  • Migrate Custom recipients; the Migration Wizard creates contacts from custom recipients.

  • The Migration Wizard does not preserve ACLs to other mailboxes or public folders. If in case after migration, mailbox owner updates his/her profile to refer to new mailbox in target Exchange organization, they will not be able to connect to mail resources in original (source) Exchange 5.5 organization.

  • The source from where you are migrating mailboxes must be different from the target. For example, you won’t be able to migrate mailboxes from Exchange 5.5 source server that is in the same organization as the Exchange target computer.

  • Does not migrate personal mail archives or personal address books

  • Does not migrates distribution lists

  • Does not migrate Inbox rules and therefore after migration, user need to update their MS Outlook Inbox rules
