Singer-songwriters James Taylor and Carole King have announced dates for the US leg of their much-anticipated Troubadour Reunion tour.
King first found fame as a Tin Pan Alley songwriter, churning out 1960s hits such as Will You Love Me Tomorrow, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman and The Loco-Motion. But it was King's performance with Taylor at the Troubadour that heralded her transition to solo artist. Her 1971 album Tapestry went on to sell more than 25 million copies worldwide and made King the first woman to win four Grammys in a single year.
Taylor, who was originally signed to the Beatles' Apple label, has sold more than 40 million albums. Both he and King have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The idea for the tour came after a series of six performances the pair gave at the Troubadour in 2007 to celebrate the venue's 50th anniversary.
Taylor said in a recent interview he hoped to stage the concerts in the round with him and King remaining on the stage together throughout the show.
James Taylor, right, and his wife, former Springfield Daily News reporter Caroline “Kim” Smedvig, left, raised 580,000 dollar for Haitian relief with a pair of concerts at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington on Jan. 22 and 23. The total includes ticket sales, pledges by National Public Radio listeners, and 155,000 dollar donated by the couple. Due to overwhelming demand, iconic singer-songwriters Carole King and James Taylor have added a second show in Boston. Tickets went on sale last Saturday for their show at the TD Garden on Saturday, June 19 and quickly sold out. Consequently, the duo will remain in Taylor's hometown for another show on Sunday, June 20.
Taylor's most recent album was his 2009 EP Other Covers,a follow-up to his hit 2008 release Covers. Both are comprised completely of Taylor's various interpretations of classic songs from Chuck Berry to Leonard Cohen. King's last studio release was 2001's Love Makes the World.
