When your PDF freezes, you can feel confused as to what could be the reason behind this. But if you come to know that all this is happening because of corruption or damaged PDF then we suggest you to go for PDF recovery.

When you try starting Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat, the application might immediately quit and appear freezing. You might also notice occurrence of error message saying “Can’t find Acrobat Plug-in.”

If, Acrobat 6.0 or Acrobat Reader 6.0 was installed on your computer, you might notice process “acrobat.exe” (Acrobat 6.x) using 95% or more of the capacity of the system processor as well as process “acrobat.exe” (Acrobat 7.x or 3D) using 25% or less of the capacity of system processor.

This error message can be resolved by performing one of more of the following solutions:

Solution 1- Delete the temporary files created by Acrobat or Reader and install the updated version. Acrobat 6.0 and Adobe Reader 6.0 might not delete the temporary files that were created during normal processes, like filling in forms. Since Acrobat and Reader check temporary files while starting up, it might take a long time for checking the excess of temporary files that can cause a long delay during startup or appear to freeze. Therefore, to delete temporary files:

  1. Select Start > Run and type command in the Open text box and click OK

  2. Type the commands given below and press Enter after every command:

c:

cd\

del acr*.tmp /s

Important- Several lines of text fill the Command.com window as this process runs. Now wait for the process to get completed (when the text stops for approx 10 seconds) and then continue with the next step.

  1. Type exit to close the Command.com window

  2. Install the update or upgrade the current version (if you using an older version)

Solution 2- Recreate the Updater folder

We suggest you to recreate the Updater folder to ensure that it doesn’t contain damaged or corrupt files:

  1. Select Start > Run, type %appdata% in the Open text box and then click OK. A window will appear

  2. Navigate to \Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\[Acrobat version number]\ in the resulting window

  3. Delete the Updater folder

  4. Restart Acrobat or Reader. A new Updater folder is created during startup

Solution 3- Repair Acrobat or Reader

If you repair Acrobat, you need to have the Acrobat CD-ROM (or access for installing files on network). Follow the steps given below to repair Acrobat or Reader:

  1. Choose Start > Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open text box and then click OK. Add or Remove Programs dialog box will appear.

  2. Click Change or Remove Programs and then click Adobe Acrobat [version number] or Adobe Reader [version number]

  3. Click Change/Remove or Change

  4. In the Setup dialog box, click Next, select Repair and then click Next again

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish repairing Acrobat or Reader

Solution 4- Log into a new user account

Create a new user account that has administrative privileges and then log on to that account prior to starting Acrobat or Reader.

The solutions above might help you deal with the situation of freezing PDFs however, if your PDF has gone corrupt and you need to perform PDF recovery, we suggest you to use qualitative PDF recovery tool for safeguarding your PDF from any corruption or damage.
