Rameshwaram is an island in the palk strails. Legend has it that Sri Ram had sanctified this place by worshipping lord Shiva.  RAMANATHASWAMY TEMPLE is famous for its impressive corridor with massive sculptured pillar lining it . The corridor of the temple is the longest in the India. Each corridor has hundreds of pillar remarkable for complex design. The Gandhamthan Paravantham is a hillock situated to the north of the temple . The two story mandapam and  an imprint of lord  Rama , feet on a chakra attract pilgrims .UTHIRAKOSAMANGAI , 72 km  from rameshwaram  has temple  dedicated  to Lord Shiva where the diety is carved  in emerald. The annual “Aruthra “festival in December attracts number of pilgrims.
