Guide to Body Acne

Acne is a common problem which affects the face, neck, chest, shoulders, arms, back, legs and buttocks. It is more difficult to treat body acne as they are thicker than facial acne. The exact cause of body acne remains unknown, but it has been proved that skin irritation can make the condition worse. Irritation can be caused by anything rubbing against the skin. Body acne can put restrictions on wearing many kinds of clothes and they are equally embarrassing and annoying as the facial acne.

Sebaceous glands which produce sebum can be a cause of body acne.  When the glands produce more sebum, they mix with the skin cells and clog the pores.  As a result it attracts bacteria and produces acne.  Acne can occur in any part of the body and almost everyone is susceptible to body acne.  Acne can appear in the form of whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, pustules and cysts. In some cases acne can be quite painful.  Menstrual breakouts, hormones and stress are possible causes of body acne. In addition to these, perspiration and tight fitting clothes are the other causes.  

It’s not easy to treat acne in hard to reach places.  The right body acne scar removal products can however help you to get rid of them.  Anti bacterial soap and salicylic acid based cleansers can be used to wash the acne prone areas.  Since the skin of the body is thicker than the face, these products can be very effective to dry out the acne.  Moisturizer containing alpha hydroxyl acid can be used to reduce dryness after washing.  

It is important not to scrub the affected areas.  The acne prone areas should be washed after perspiration on hot sunny days or after vigorous exercise.  It may take up to 6 weeks for acne treatment regime to show results.  However, even after this period if the acne is not cured, then it is advisable to consult a dermatologist. The last resort for treating acne is Acutane.  This process has shown effective results in the treatment of all kinds of acne.

Once acne has been treated it is important to reduce the frequency of outbreaks by wearing loose clothes, using fragrance free products, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and drinking plenty of water.
