The
reach of webinar
is now undeniable. In a sense, conferencing on the web has changed the way the
Internet is used. More importantly, webinar is fast becoming the go to solution
for distance learning. According to online sources, an increasing number of organizations
are beginning to see the benefits of internet teleconferencing as a training
tool.
Wainhouse
Research recently pointed out in a new study increasing amounts being spent on
using these tools for training and education. The author of the study, Alan D.
Greenberg was quoted as saying, “Educators
are taking advantage of stimulus funding in the U.S. and major governmental
initiatives elsewhere to acquire these tools to improve the learning
experience, while corporate trainers are responding to imperatives for improved
training efficiencies in business.”
Clearly
data conferencing
not only improves the ability to dispense information, it also makes the
training process itself more efficient. Webinar software is actually comprised
of a number of features that make this so. These include:
- Audio and video
capabilities
- Questions and
answer sessions via chat
- Interactive
whiteboards
- Meeting
recording
Improving Corporate
Workflow
The
beauty of learning through webinar is that the student never needs to leave
their original location. Company heads are warming to the idea of using these
tools because classes can be scheduled and organized with minimal back and
forth communication. Travel time and costs are eliminated as the worker can be
engaged in a training session and immediately get back to work after it’s done.
All-in-all, management prefer this method of training as there is less
disruption in workflow.
Distance
learning, while not a new idea, has evolved with the growth of webinar.
Admittedly, earlier versions of these types of software were not readily
accepted by the market. Security was naturally a major concern, as was the
issue of providing support. Many companies also had concerns about the risks to
users posed by hosted options that required software to be downloaded by a
user’s browser.
The
current breed of webconference makes distance learning a much safer prospect. Company
like RHUB Communications is helping to lead the charge that is seeing an
enormous growth in the use of online meetings. End users can rely on enhanced
security and real time communication which has become the standard in the
industry.
The recent release by
RHUB of its TurboMeeting 4.1 generated a lot of buzz in the industry. This
further illustrates the determination by established players to provide better
products for an increasingly discerning audience. Additionally, self-hosted
appliances which make web collaboration easy are also changing the features of
distance learning.
