You don't have to be a sports lover in order to love a good sports flick.  There are many people out there who don't know much about sports but still include Field of Dreams, Miracle, Remember The Titans, and Hoosiers among their favorite movies of all time.  A sports flick, when done right, can evoke strong emotion and a desire to go out and do the impossible. The hard part is to be able to create a movie on something that is unique and different.  There have been so many movies made about the underdog beating the titans, that it almost doesn't even make you blink to watch it.  A good sports movie needs to have unique characters, a true storyline, and something story plot that sets it apart from all of the other sports movies that are currently available on the market.

This is where the new biopic on Vince Lombardi comes in.  ESPN announced plans to release a film about legendary Green Bay Packer's coach Vince Lombardi before the Superbowl in 2012.  Lombardi is set to be played by Robert De Niro, and it will showcase his career and his intense rivalry with Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry.  Anyone that knows NFL sports will tell you that Vince Lombardi is one of the most unique figures in Football history.

His coaching career was absolutely incredible.  He became head coach of the Green bay Packers in 1959 and coached the team to win five World Championships in the space of nine years.  With the amount of time he had to work with, this is an almost impossible feat to achieve.   Not only did he have an incredible career that has since been looked on and envied by every other football coach, he also came up with some of the most famous sports quotes out there.

He coined the term "If it doesn't matter who wins or loses, then why do they keep score?", as well as "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."  Known for his drive to win and be victorious, he made a name for himself in the NFL.  Now that personality is being put to life onscreen and Eric Roth, who was the screenwriter for Forrest Gump, will attempt to bring Lombardi's words to life through Robert De Niro.

Having Robert De Niro in the lineup should make this a blockbuster of a movie.  De Niro has done sports films in the past such as Raging Bull, which turned out to be one of the classic sports movies of all time.

One of the other things about this movie that will make it unique is the time period of the setting of the movie. The late fifties and early sixties were still a gangster era, and that should make for some fun plot twists and situational drama. Robert De Niro should be able to take this part in stride and help ESPN put out a great football movie that hopefully, if all goes well, will rank among some of the best sports movies of all time.
