If you want something done right then just do it yourself. Who hasn't heard this all too familiar saying before? So then, why should I use a public relations agency when I can simply do this type of thing myself? Besides things are more competitive now, so PR funds are a little tight.
Of course any type of Public Relations effort would have to
include using the Internet today. It almost goes without saying. After all,
virtually every type of media agency today accesses and uses it. So now this
brings us to the topic of search engine optimization, as it pertains to public
relations or PR.
If you can do your own PR then surly you know how to use SEO
or search engine optimization to your benefit. It's the means by which you
insure that the maximum number of eyes will be laid on whatever type of PR
literature you produce and post on the net.
Well, there are over 100 factors that Google considers when
deciding where to position your posts in the search engines. Can you name even
three of them? What about even key word placement in your text? Keyword
placement is quite basic. Do you understand it all?
What about market research, as it pertains to SEO? Do you
even know how to search out and identify the most optimal words that are being
used by potential clients and customers on the net. Words that relate to
whatever it is that your business is providing?
If your answers to any of those questions was “no”, then you
are just as prepared to do your own PR, as you are to do your own dental work.
Or even if you do have some understanding of basic keyword placement, you need
to know that you will be going up against professions who make it their
business to be the most competitive on the net.
One test you can take is to simply type one popular search
engine keyword into your computers search engine. For instance, if you're in
the janitorial business, simply type in “janitorial services”. After the first
page pops up, look to the upper right hand corner and there will be a number
that represents all the entries that have been posted.
If
you're lucky, the number will be in the hundreds of thousands. Most likely it
will be over a million. What this means is that you will be competing for space
in the search engine with over a million others? Are you ready? Given these
numbers, is it really worth spending your time and money to do it yourself?
Maybe now you can better see why you should use a public relations agency
staffed by professionals.
