The benefits of a mobile tower crane aren’t just measured in manoeuvrability and efficiency. Over time, a mobile tower crane can save on job duration and costs.

A mobile tower crane could be the answer to every construction site’s lifting requirements.  Unlike static tower cranes, which need to be build onsite (a time-consuming and often dangerous process), a mobile tower crane is driven in fully assembled and can be ready to start lifting in less than an hour.  The mobile tower crane combines the adaptability and efficiency of a telescopic crane (the “usual” type of mobile crane, with telescopically extendable boom arms) with the reach of a normal tower crane effectively allowing constructors to install tower cranes in sites where they were previously impossible.

A mobile tower crane arrives on a multi-axle vehicle equipped with heavy duty stabilisers.  The crane is articulated rather than telescopic, unfolding in stages to produce a standing lifter with much the same shape and range of movement as a static tower crane.  The mobile tower crane can be manoeuvred into an exact position, which allows contractors working on public sites (i.e. sites that aren’t closed off to vehicular access) to import and use heavy lifting equipment with minimum disruption to roads and traffic.

The lifting power of a mobile tower crane is really no different to static tower cranes of comparable size.  Heavy duty mobile tower cranes can be used in all large projects, from decommissions or shutdowns to new buildings.

A mobile tower crane saves money for its operator on two fronts.  First, constructors are no longer bound by expensive set-up costs.  Building a conventional tower crane is costed in time and money – it takes a day to put one together, which means money is lost through site shutdown; and you have to pay someone to do it.  Installing a mobile tower crane is as easy as driving the vehicle up to the desired location and activating its stabilisers.

The other cost of using a conventional tower crane, as opposed to a mobile tower crane, is long-term hire charges.  Because normal tower cranes take so long to build, they tend to stay in place for the duration of a project, in use or no, to prevent paying for having another one built should the project require its uses at a later date.  Static tower cranes staying in situ for the duration cost daily money.  A mobile tower crane costs less to put in and is only hired for the amount of time it stays on site.

Having a mobile tower crane, which can be moved from area to area and only drafted onto site when it is going to be used, also means that space is freed for other vehicles and construction processes.  The net result of space saved for other uses is always increased productivity, which translates into faster completion.  Over years of use, a mobile tower crane starts to show an unexpected benefit.  Not only does a mobile crane save short-term money, and perform problem-free lifts without sacrificing space or efficiency:  it also shortens project time by appreciable degrees.  Which means, in the long run, a mobile tower crane actually allows construction companies to complete more projects per given amount of time, than had they not been using them.
