Modern tiaras are available in a bewildering array of variations – classic, modern, coloured, delicate. Choosing the right one, though, is easier than you’d think.
Tiaras
make wedding outfits. Not the ring, not
the dress or the veil: tiaras are the
focal point, the part that ties everything else together. Tiaras give an outfit something to orbit;
something to revolve around – that little shiny piece of diamond and silver
that makes every girl’s wedding day her coronation.
Tiaras
are special for a reason. Tiaras make
their wearer feel like royalty – like a debutante at a society ball, a princess
in a fairytale or a Queen at her inauguration.
Everyone gets to wear special dresses from time to time (and yes, a
wedding dress is more special than most, but even so); every girl who gets
married gets to wear a ring forever: but tiaras? Tiaras are only worn once, on the day.
As
befits such exotic pieces of jewellery, and such landmark days, the
choice of tiaras available to the modern bride is as daunting as the prospect
of screwing up the nerve to pop the question.
There are silver tiaras, diamond tiaras, diamond-and-silver
tiaras... a list, were it to be compiled,
would put even the most extravagant wedding list to shame. Such a profusion of tiaras, though, is
actually a help: with this many tiaras
on offer every girl is bound to find the perfect piece to complement her
outfit.
Classic
tiaras go best with traditional wedding trousseau– white dresses, silk trains,
veils. Classic tiaras, generally
speaking, are the silver or silver-and-diamond (or diamante) variety: the kind of tiaras we’re all used to seeing
nestling in the perfect hairdos of celebrity and royal wives. The full works with church and entourage
deserve that purist sparkle – if that’s the plan, tie the outfit together with
unostentatious tiaras in pale bridal colours.
These
days (naturally), the traditionalist isn’t the only one catered for in the
world of bridal tiaras. For funky modern
settings, brides might be tempted with sideset tiaras (for obvious reasons
sideset tiaras are best without a veil), adding a contemporary skew (literally)
to a classic design. Coloured tiaras,
too, allow for that original dash in the bridal outfit – beautiful tiaras
sprouting flowers made of blue pearls, or sweet rosebud tiaras whose delicate
blooms are sets of pink diamante.
The
long-lasting bridal trend for matching entourage outfits (where the bride is
dressed in pale pink and the bridesmaids in a similar shade, for example) is
wonderfully enhanced by bridal tiaras.
Putting tiaras on the bride “marks” her as the queen among her handmaids,
ensuring that the special attention is reserved for her.
Classic
chic to modern sparkle, tiaras are the last word in any bridal outfit. Choosing the right one needn’t be
difficult: like haircuts and dresses,
there are thousands of them out there but only a few right for a given
personality. Once picked, the perfect tiaras
are the final word for every wedding day.
