Health insurance plans are readily available in the UK and are being offered as either Fee based or managed healthcare plans. Each is different to the other but they will cover costs for buying medications (including prescription medicines) a choice of hospital where the patient is treated and they also sometimes include cover for dental costs.

It is recommended, that before purchasing your health insurance, that you find out which medical insurance policy type is most suitable for your needs and what the cover options within the health insurance policy are. The Fee for the Service plan allows the insured to get a doctor of their choice to examine them and the healthcare professional for their part is paid a fee for the services offered to the insured. The claim for such a plan can be filed by the patient and it can also be filed by the medical healthcare provider.

It is interesting to note that more than fifty percent of people choose to purchase Managed Care plans of which there are different types with each plan working in a unique manner and each offers complete healthcare services to the insured. Such plans also offer monetary incentives to the insured to encourage them to make use of providers that are part of the managed healthcare plan.

The different plans are provided by the major life insurance and medical insurance companies such as Bupa, Aviva Healthcare and AXA PPP.

The Health Maintenance Organisation plan is a very old plan and it allows you to choose from a number of different healthcare benefits including preventive care. The Group Model HMO ensures that patients can be treated by doctors (employed by this health plan) at the latter’s clinic and medical centre.

Individual Practice Association or IPA is another plan in which the HMO is contracted with different physicians (groups or individual) who can be consulted in their private clinics.

The Preferred Provider Organisation involves entering into contract with a hospital or medical service providers who charge fewer fees. It is also a plan that gives the insured the opportunity to use their own resources in selecting doctors that are not part of the PPO network. But, in such cases the insured is only reimbursed seventy percent of their costs.

Before selecting the PPO health insurance plan there are a number of questions that you need to have answered. For example, you must find out the number of doctors that you can choose and their location. You also need to find out which doctors among those chosen by you take in new patients and how do they handle referrals.

When it comes to picking cheap health insurance there are a number of things that need to be addressed. With costs of this form of insurance rising you must be careful that you entrust your healthcare to professionals that are qualified and who offer best rates. With costs of medical care rising it is not easy for doctors to offer quality care at affordable prices.

An independent health insurance intermediary can usually always find you the best healthcare cover at the best possible prices.
