Income protection benefits mean that your bills can be paid even if your life comes to s sudden standstill through accident or injury. Having this form of insurance means you will be able to plan your life more surely.

Income protection is something that is relatively new in the insurance world. But it makes a great deal of sense. No one knows when they are likely to be injured at work or in a car accident. We don’t know when illness is just around the corner either. But while our life may come to a temporary standstill through illness or injury, the bills still keep rolling in and the people who sent them certainly expect to be paid on time.

But unless you have a magnificent amount of savings, you will not be able to pay those bills. Not unless you have income protection. A mortgage has to be paid every month if foreclosure is to be prevented. Electricity bills must be paid on time or the power will be cut off. Food must go on the table if starvation is to be prevented. But if you are depending on your income to pay these things and suddenly there is no income, what will you do?

But with income protection there is no need to worry. If you are injured or sick and cannot work for any length of time, you will be paid a percentage of your income for some time. This will often give you the time you need to get back on your feet.

You may think that once you cannot work, you can get an allowance from the government. This may be so, but you do have to wait for several weeks. And then, will it be enough? Most government pensions are not enough to pay off a mortgage and still feed the family. That’s why so many people have to rent homes instead of buying them.

So don’t depend on the government, but take out income protection so that you know exactly how much you will be getting and for what time length. In this way you can plan your future with more certainty.
