Choosing the College: How to Obtain the Letter of Recommendation

It goes without saying that the application essays and ACT and SAT tests are of great importance for students to enhance their chances for entering the college. However, the letter of recommendation is not the last word either. Effective recommendations from teachers can be the final conditions for enrolling to a college. To gain a solid recommendation, it is necessary to deserve them.

How obtain a good letter of recommendation:

• Build relationships with your teacher beforehand! You should get to know your teachers better before asking them for recommendations. Take a chance to speak with the teaching stuff, especially with those whom you like. To do that, try to ask them for advice or some help. In case you become in close touch with your teacher, he/she will be able to talk about your strengths and weaknesses.

• Ask for recommendations wisely. Do not feel confused or forced when asking for a letter of recommendation, just because you got an excellent mark from that teacher. Your main task is to get a well-written recommendation from a highly competent teacher who knows what skills to highlight and which one to criticize. Do not be afraid of asking a solid recommendation when you feel sure of its effectiveness and credibility.

• You should treat your recommendation in the appropriate way. Trigger you teacher to write exactly what you want. In case everything is agreed, make them to do that in the best way. Give them all possibilities to jot down possible things only about your competence. It is also desirable for you to submit a list or the greatest results and achievements which will help you to enter the college. However, keep that part brief, as modesty is the main virtue of each student. Finally, it is also recommended to write a few of “thank-you” words, as this person will influence your fate!
