The difference between an enjoyable and a horrible college experience lies in the details. This article outlines the elements of the enjoyable experience.
It is rarely that someone would recall his/her life in college as a non enjoyable experience. In that regard, what there not to enjoy in college life. A campus full of peers and friends, parties, new experiences, and the fact that you are mostly on your own can all contribute to your memories, after which you will say with a smile: those were really good times. The backside of such experience might be less positive, where you would merely have a few acquaintances to whom you occasionally nod, hours sitting in your room studying, and an envious look toward your peers recalling episodes from a party, in which you did not participate. Where is the truth, one might ask. Well, as always, the truth is somewhere in between.
Participation
One of the aspects distinguishing the positive and the negative experiences of college life is participation. Enjoying your life in college is everything but being passive. It should be stated that there are no certain obligations as one might, where the only active participation, heavily promoted in movies, is football or sports in general and acting groups. There are far more options to participate in, where one can choose one of his/her choice. The good thing is that the range of activities available for students are usually promoted by college, and thus, there is a strong chance to check for such activities before deciding which college to choose.
Friendship
The aforementioned aspect logically leads to the present point of discussion, i.e. friendship. Every enjoyable experience told regarding life in college cannot be managed without mentioning friends as active participants. In fact, you can finish college without making friends, but it is doubtful that you will recall such experience with pleasure, and it is something that you should avoid at all costs. Devoting all your time to study is a good thing, however, making friends is essential and might prove beneficial to your career later. Thus, it would be recommended that you start making friends as soon as you get to college, and in that regard, the point of participation, mentioned earlier, would be helpful to find friends who share the same interests with you.
