The hardest skill for most network marketers to master is effective sponsoring. The good news is that this is a skill that can be learned. For example, when I joined my first network marketing business opportunity years ago, I did not even sponsor 5 people. In the last company I joined, I sponsored over 150 people. These prospecting tips apply whether you are using “old school” methods or “new school” methods to build your network marketing business.
The hardest skill for most network marketers to master is
effective sponsoring. The good news is
that this is a skill that can be learned.
For example, when I joined my first network marketing business
opportunity years ago, I did not even sponsor 5 people. In the last company I joined,
I sponsored over 150 people.
These prospecting
tips apply whether you are using “old school” methods or “new school” methods
to build your network marketing business.
Before you start prospecting, you need to understand your
market. This is true if you are
marketing online or offline. The
internet makes this much easier because it allows you to easily and
inexpensively target groups of people instead of one person at a time.
There are a couple of questions you need to
ask and answer about your target market before you begin marketing to that
person or group of people.
1.
What kinds of things are they looking for,
thinking about, and talking about?
2.
What are some of their problems that you can
help solve?
Knowing the answers to these questions in advance will make
your marketing and prospecting a whole lot easier.
The Cartoon Coach’s 5
Prospecting Tips for Becoming a Sponsoring Machine in Your Network Marketing Business
1.
Use your
eyes and ears in the proportion that they were given to you. This means listen more than you talk. Most network marketers are so over-zealous
about their opportunity, that it is the only thing they talk about. Other people
do not care about your opportunity as much as you do. You have to show interest in other people
before they show interest in you, and you do that by listening to them.
2.
Ask
questions. The person in control of
any conversation is the person who is asking the questions. This gives you the opportunity to listen
more. As you listen to the person talking, they will give you clues to help you
figure out the best way to proceed with them.
3.
Do unto
others as they would have you do unto them.
This means operating from that person’s frame of reference. Since there are four basic personality types,
and one of those is the way you are used to operating, then you will have
success with only 25% of your prospects if you approach them all from your
frame of reference.
4.
Learn
from everything. If you learn from
everything instead of some things, your knowledge and expertise will increase
faster. This means learning not only
from educational books, audios, and videos, but also from your mistakes, your
results, your interaction with other people, etc.
5.
Do not
make excuses. Excuses build bridges
to nowhere and monuments to nothing.
Those who practice them seldom accomplish anything at all. No matter how valid and justifiable your
excuses may sound, they are still excuses nonetheless. Stop making excuses and make it happen.
You must also realize that you will have to talk to a lot people. It will take a lot more work to be successful
in network marketing than sponsoring 3 people, like they promised you in that
opportunity meeting.
That is another advantage of learning how to market on the
internet. You will never run out of
people.
This is important because if you want to only work with three-percenters,
you must realize that 97 out of 100 people that you talk to will not be the
person you are looking for as a business partner.
Much Success,
