When it comes to accident claims, road traffic accidents are a major source of compensation cases. Each year, more than ten thousand crashes occur on Britain’s roads, many of which result in personal injuries – sometimes serious. One of the main causes of road traffic accidents is mechanical vehicle failure. This can be as a result of a design flaw, or a technical fault occurring in the car or bike. One contributing factor to mechanical failure is poor maintenance of vehicles. For instance, drivers’ not ensuring they regularly check their tyre pressures or replacing faulty brake lights - or consulting a garage if a warning light comes on.

Another major cause is poor road conditions, particularly in the winter time when freezing temperatures result in an increasing number of potholes. Other common issues include slippery new road surfaces or poor drainage systems leading to flooded roads.

Perhaps the most common cause, however, is human error. Crashes often result from drivers becoming distracted at the wheel by eating, using their mobile phone – which is in itself illegal – or talking to passengers. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is also a contributing factor, and fatigue can also result in slower reaction times.

Those of you that have been involved in a car crash are entitled to claim accident compensation against the party responsible. Most commonly this is the negligence of the other driver that you collided with; however it can also be the manufacturer of a vehicle with a mechanical problem or a local authority that failed to properly maintain the road.

A professional firm such as here at Claims Solicitors can offer expert legal advice on who you can make accident claims against and the strength of your case, to support your bid for a financial payout for the injury you have suffered.
