Volunteering and community service can become not only a source of public good but also a source of your scholarship

What do you think about helping other people for free? Yes, it is noble and decent to help people who are around you and not to ask anything in return. However, this unselfish help may turn out to be very beneficial for you if you are a high school graduate who is going to enter a college to continue education. There exist special scholarships that are called scholarship for volunteering and scholarship for community service. This means that you do something good and get a very substantial “thanks” for your help.

·        Do not be ashamed to ask if the organization of a community you help grants scholarship for volunteers. It often happens that hospitals, churches, mosques, veteran organizations grant scholarship to volunteers, so, why not try getting it?

·        There are governmental plans to introduce a scholarship for applicants that come from families with low income and who take part in community work. These two factors, need and volunteering, will be decisive in the choice of applicants eligible for such scholarship.

·        Also, there is a special program, called the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, that is a good option to choose for those people who took an education loan and have gotten a low-paid job after graduation from a college. The loan is to be repaid but the Loan Forgiveness program exchanges your federal debt for public service. You will have to work in public service for the period of ten years and you will make a certain number of payments, but as soon as the period of ten years expires, your debt is forgiven.

Types of public service

If you think that community service is a good opportunity to get a scholarship, you should think it over in advance and take measures. Choose a sphere of interest to you and start working for public good. The possible spheres of public service are the work with children, crisis support of people, environment friendly work, etc.
