Applying for Financial Aid if You Are a Female Student

Nowadays it is generally accepted that men and women are equal. The time when women were confined to household chores and brining up children is in the past. Nowadays there are many female specialists in all professional spheres, even those that are traditionally considered to be men’s domain. However, this division into female and male education still exists and the struggle against prejudices is guided by special types of financial aid that is granted to female students only. 

• The organization called American Association of University Women has the aim of granting higher education opportunities for women in America. This organization offers assistance in a number of spheres connected with education for women: it grants fellowship (certain sums of money for academic projects), it protects women from discrimination based on gender.


• There is a special financial aid for women who are single parents or have low income. Their children are also eligible for this financial aid.


•  There is a financial aid opportunity for employed women who want to develop their professional skills or want to get another career.


• There is a financial aid for women who are bread-winners in the family and have low income.


• There is also a special program for women in the US Army, as it is, probably, the sphere where the number of women is the lowest.


•  One more sphere, where there are very few women is computer science. This is why Yale University has established a program of financial aid for female students working in the sphere of computer science.
