E-paper, short for electronic paper, is a thin flexible display capable of presenting visual images or text which has the readability factor of traditional paper. Advances in optical display, power consumption, and network connectivity have greatly expanded the number of potential applications for e-paper. Electronic paper is a major advertising and promotional display technology, especially in retail signage for the point‐of‐purchase (POP).
80% of purchasing decisions are
made almost straight away while walking the supermarket aisle, because of the
shelf appeal of the product display. Essentially, grabbing consumer attention
in the retail venue has become increasingly important to retailers. A store may carry thousands of products but if
it is not seen, it does not exist. Consequently, Point of Purchase (POP)
displays are a tool some retailers use to achieve the attention of the consumer.
However, a more effective moving POP display utilizing electrophoretic
technology developed by E Ink is increasing in popularity.

paper based on E ink’s electronic ink is superior for POP advertisement due to
its unique features: paper-thin, lightweight, flexible, shatterproof, extremely
power efficient, superior contrast and attention grabbing capabilities. E-paper
displays use no backlight or front light and can be easily viewed from any
angle and under virtually any lighting condition.
Point-of-purchase display
designers have long been faced the limitations in cost, design, space and power
while adding animation. Now, with the evolve of e-paper technology, adding a
simple motion factor that builds the brand, integrates easily, and lasts for
months on small batteries is easy. There are several advantages of this type of
e-paper point-of-purchase displays. It is paper-thin and capable of holding
text and images indefinitely without drawing electricity, while allowing the
image to be changed later.. This means it can be used for high-impact point of
purchase display signs in retail environments where space and access to power
are limited. In addition e-paper is more comfortable to read than conventional
displays due to the stable image that does not need to be refreshed constantly,
the wider viewing angle, and the fact that it reflects ambient light rather
than emitting its own light. An e-paper display can be read in direct sunlight
without the image appearing to fade.
