Back in the 90’s, SCADA drive systems were based on proprietary control features incorporated into the design by the developer. Complex, bespoke designs incurred significant investment and a lot of man hours to develop and install. Research and development costs were high in those days; the cost of which was inevitably forced to be passed on to the user in one way or another.

They clearly proved their worth as some of the early users of such systems have upgraded their systems to further improve efficiency as technology has progressed. The advent of the internet has of course impacted significantly on this due to its unquestionable efficiency as a communication tool.

SCADA and other industrial automation systems make full use of communications technology to offer the user extremely efficient and effective control systems. The SCADA systems of today developed by us at Iconsys offer companies a real way to improve both financially and in production by helping the business to measure, forecast, invoice, analyse and plan performance.

It is equally inevitable that technology will continue to power ahead and develop further so when developing your SCADA or other industrial automation or control systems, your control system should not only work in tandem and be able to communicate with any older equipment you may have, but it should also have the capability to work with future upgrades.  In short, it should be a system that will work in tandem with both old and new technology.

An experienced SCADA drive system provider will have already invested heavily in the training of their people to ensure they are up to date with current thinking and techniques but one must be prepared to provide a fair amount of information to ensure your SCADA or control systems meets your needs effectively; the time and effort invested will offer significant benefit.
