Teacher of the twenty-first century has to shape new generations that will be all-round educated and able to combine rational and emotional intelligence to face the challenges of life. The attractiveness and effectiveness of the modern school depends mainly on creativity of teachers.
The main task, maybe even a mission of teachers at the beginning of the second decade of twenty-first century seems to oppose the negative tendencies that may be a threat to the development of the young generation. It is also important to encourage and enforce positive processes. Both, positive and negative factors are parts of our reality. Technical development is changing the world rapidly and affects all human beings in ways we cannot always predict. It all makes teachers' work extremely difficult.
Teacher of the twenty-first century has to shape new generations that will be all-round educated and able to combine rational and emotional intelligence to face the challenges of life. The attractiveness and effectiveness of the modern school depends mainly on creativity of teachers. They should be creative not only for their students but also for themselves and their own development. Teachers are role models for students, they show them ways and methods of creative life approach. Everyone has to and can be creative in everyday life: a student, a parent, a teacher, a scientist – not only an artist. Teachers have to be flexible, multidimensional, open-minded and independent. The modern concept of teacher’s self education is based on various competencies: cognitive, interpersonal, cultural, ethical and many others. The theory of multidimensional education demands that teacher’s ability to work with students should be controlled and verified on daily basis. The system is simply unable to do that and so teachers have to be to some extent responsible for themselves and their own personal and professional development. How can teachers make sure they do everything right? There is no simple answer to that question.
The key to success may be hidden in constant, long-life learning and using information technologies. Teachers simply have to use them as their students do. Those technologies are a part of reality we can no longer ignore. The Internet is becoming the environment in which, to some extent we all exist. The main challenge is to use it wisely and to teach students to do the same. The ability to use not only traditional resources for teachers but also online resources is crucial. Luckily, the Internet makes information exchange so easy that it can be an outstanding educational portal" for all the educators to join their efforts and stay up to date with all the necessary data. These portals often offer valuable resources for teachers" free of charge. However, as the virtual reality brings not only positive things but also threats it is very important not to forget the real world and keep eyes opened at all times.
The one-on-one contact with students and reacting to their needs is as much important as staying up-to-date with all the technical issues. Only teachers who keep that in mind can develop themselves and their students – in some way they grow together with them. Opened to their needs and understanding their world. Teaching is not only about providing the knowledge but also a partnership that bonds people together for life. The main difference between now and the past is that the world is running away much faster and it takes more effort to keep up the pace.
