Recently I realized that I should start to control my activity and choose the places I visit online more carefully. I thought about websites that are worth visiting and that can help me learn new things and use the time I spend in front of my computer more efficiently.
I often find myself surfing on the Web without any purpose. I bet many people do it. They visit random websites, read some gossip, watch some photos. They spy on some people, read shocking news and feed hundreds of adverts to themselves. It is usually wasting time and I really doubt that after hours of such activity we are wiser. I would even say we are brainwashed at some point. Recently I realized how much time I spent this way and that I really had to change it. I decided to control my activity and choose the places I visit online more carefully. I thought about websites that are worth visiting and that can help me learn new things and use the time I spend in front of my computer more efficiently. If you are like me and want to change it is the high time to focus on sites that are valuable and give us the opportunity to find out about new things and allow us evolve.
I usually start with the search engine. I think about words that are new to me and I would like to know what they mean. I bet everybody has something on their mind, something they have heard and had no idea about. When I get the results of my search I check all the websites carefully and choose the ones that clearly explain the meaning of the word I am interested in. I must say that I usually choose Wikipedia. And here starts another journey. After finding out everything about my word I am jumping to related definitions and check them one by one. If I find something interesting for me I read it and go on to related definitions again. I can spend hours like that and I really feel my knowledge improves. To make my searching even more interesting I check the definitions in the foreign languages I know to compare the content, see more photos etc. Actually I use Wikipedia as a dictionary very often, especially when it goes for some kind of professional vocabulary. It is very useful and helped me countless times.
Other places I very often visit while surfing on the Internet are PR websites and article bases. A free PR site" is a site where people write press releases and articles on any subject and visitors can read them. The sites usually offer free PR submission" so I published my work there as well. But the thing I love the most is reading the releases of other people. They write about everything – from home accessories through fashion tips to complicated law procedures etc. They write about their personal experiences, feelings and observations. I have learned so much on many subjects reading the articles. The authors usually write really good content so reading that is pure pleasure. Not to mention the amount of knowledge hidden inside.
As you can see there are many places on the Internet worth visiting. It doesn’t always have to be a gossip site or an online game. If we have some spare time to spend on surfing, let’s choose something more ambitious. It is just like with reading books – I promise it will pay off in future.
