Is plastic surgery required before you enter politics? With cosmetic procedures normal practice for Hollywood types, you have to consider the impact on the world of politicians. They live in the media lime light almost as much as actors and musicians do any more. A candidate’s looks determine many political races as much as their platform. An ugly political candidate is becoming a thing of the past. As more and more media attention comes, the more images become important. Reality is no longer fashionable. It started with the Kennedy-Nixon debates in 1960 and only gets worse with each passing decade.

For anyone considering plastic surgery, you need to know the risks involved. Any of these medical procedures are serious. They involve anesthesia and cutting into the body. There can be scarring and pain involved. Your results may not be exactly what you hoped they would be. You need to inform your regular medical doctor before getting the procedure. Your general health or prescriptions can lead to complications you need to consider before going under the knife. People have died from complications of a simple cosmetic procedure. Politics or no, the risks are real for everyone.

It is good practice to consult a counselor before signing up for plastic surgery. You need to make sure you want the procedure for the right reasons. Changing your body’s shape will not magically cure things like depression or body image issues. Your past will remain as it was even if you change your body. You as a person will not change when you change the shape of your nose, ears, or tummy. If you want the procedure because you want a certain part of your body to look better, that is perfect. If you think your whole life will change because you get a nose job, reconsider your decision. Politics or no, surgery is not a magic pill.

Why are you contemplating plastic surgery? It needs to be for you and you alone. If your spouse or anyone else is pushing you to get a procedure, rethink it. If you are entering politics, looks are important. However, self-confidence reads very well even if your nose is a bit big or your ears stick out too much. If you love yourself as you are, that comes across stronger than any face-lift. Changing your looks for someone else will read false even on the best political face.
