Think Healthy Not Skinny For The Weight Loss You Want

One of the best ways to insure success in your weight loss and dieting efforts is to deemphasize “skinny” and “thin” as words that represent what you are trying to achieve.  Instead, if you start to think in terms of “healthy” as the overall diet place that you are trying to get to and stay at, you’ll find that it will be easier to be successful.  Why, you might ask, does this shift in thinking really matter?

If we are constantly sending the message to ourselves that our weight loss goals, our slimming down, our dieting success or failure, is tied to what we eat, we are more likely to feel as if we are depriving ourselves of what everybody else gets to eat.  Instead, if we can see that the food we eat is tied to our current and long-term health, the pressure on getting skinny or getting thin will start to diminish somewhat.

Make the connection to how certain foods affect the function of our body.  Take a health education class offered by your health insurance, if you have insurance.  If not, explore the classes offered at your local community center.  Many of these classes do a wonderful job of emphasizing an overall healthy life style.

A little bit of education goes a long way.  By seeing how excess fats and excess carbohydrates affect organs and arteries and blood sugar levels, you will start to appreciate the value of eating “healthy” so that your body will be less apt to break down.  Substantial weight loss, if you are indeed overweight, will simply be a byproduct of a healthier lifestyle.

Ironically, by substituting “healthy” for “thin,” “thin” has a better chance of happening.  One of the byproducts of focusing more on a healthy lifestyle is that this change in perspective will likely lead you to subsequent healthy decisions and activities that will bring along weight loss in a far less stressful manner than any fad diet can achieve.

With your healthy mindset, you may very well find it considerably easier to include low impact, but regular exercise in your list of daily activities.  A regular walking regimen, for example, may be just the thing to lower your blood pressure or cholesterol level.  Again, healthy thinking equates to healthy decisions.  Weight loss and weight management are simply byproducts of the healthy approach.

Others around you are likely to get interested in living healthy as well.  Many studies have illustrated that following a healthy path is contagious to friends and family and others that are part of your daily life.  Without the “diet” pressures constantly rearing their ugly heads, those around you will start to notice your positive results and healthy attitude and are likely to jump on the bandwagon.  No preaching on your part is necessary.  By living in a healthy community, you will be able to support one another in continuing along the same path.

Out with the “skinny” and in with the “healthy.”  Get healthy first and the inches will come peeling off almost by themselves.
