The general public is awaiting the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao mega a fight, but true boxing betting fans are also awaiting the dream fight between Paul Williams and Amir Khan. This would be a very interesting fight between two of boxing most exciting young boxers. The welterweight division in boxing is currently the cash cow, so it would make since that the two boxers meet at the 147 pound welterweight limit. This would not be a problem for either fighter even with Williams height.

Paul Williams is the self proclaimed most avoided fighter on the planet. This is mainly because of his 6 foot 2 inch frame that is very unique in the welterweight division. I for one feel as though Williams is a good fighter but needs to challenge himself more in the middle weight division. He is currently campaigning only for big-money fights with big-name fighters. Since the fight between middleweight Kelly Pavlik continually fell through he has been trying to land a fight with Floyd Mayweather or. Manny Pacquiao. This would be easier if it wasn't for his loss to a lesser opponent in Atlantic City and his bizarre win over Kermit Cintron.

While Williams fighting stock is on the decline Amir Khan is a boxer on the rise. Khan is an undefeated British boxer, who you may not be betting against. He recently won his first American fight over the loud mouth Paulie Malignaggi. The best move this British boxer made was making super trainer Freddie Roach is trainer. Freddie Roach not only brings a winning strategy, he brings big fight attraction because of his name. While it is unlikely that Khan will fight Pacquiao because they share Roach as a trainer, he could soon be Pacquiao’s predecessor. This is due to the fact that Manny is now a congressman in the Philippines.

With both Williams and Khan careers still in question, this fight looks like it is far off. Williams still needs to prove himself as an elite fighter and not just an elite athlete. Khan needs more American fights and he must get out Manny’s shadow. I truly believe with the right career choices this fight can one day have the same hype as Floyd versus Manny. Williams should fight Yuri Foreman and Khan should fight Marquez in 2010 or 2011. These quality opponents would give them the publicity needed to make this dream fight happen. Until then we can just keep on dreaming!
