Jesus foretold that the world would take no note of the impending judgment of God. Pop culture contributes the noise of distraction even inn the face of a global holocaust.

This article is not really about Lindsay Lohan or even celebrities in general. I have no interest in her private or even her professional life, and certainly not her tweets. This is a word about the lethal distraction of pop culture.

Admittedly, the use of the name Lindsay Lohan is a blatant attempt at keyword optimization. But alas, even at that I am at least a week behind the times. According to Google trends the appropriately named American Idol is one of the top searches for today. Tomorrow, of course, someone else will squander their 15 minutes of fame.

At its best pop-culture is banal. At its worst it is degenerate and degrading. Pop culture and modern entertainment takes so much and give so little in return.

Meanwhile, in the real world, as the global financial system lurches towards its next convulsion, feverish preparations are underway for World War III.

Consider: The United States has just made operational a top-secret, earth-orbiting shuttle, that some knowledgable people believe will be the first space-based laser weapon. Also, Obama has ordered yet another aircraft carrier strike group to the Persian Gulf region, so that by midsummer there will be a virtual armada consisting of five carrier attack groups within striking distance of Iran. For months now the United States has been stockpiling nuclear weapons on the Queen’s island of Diego Garcia. Perhaps most unsettling, last week the United States deployed Patriot missile batteries in Poland, just a couple of miles from the Russian border; ostensibly to protect the Poles from Iran’s nonexistent intercontinental ballistic missiles. Why the Iranians would want to attack Poland is anyone’s guess. The reality is that Americans have become to stupefied and disoriented, due in no small measure to the pop-culture and propaganda in which we are immersed 24-7, that most people seem to have lost the ability reason.

Meanwhile, to counter the Anglo-American encirclement of Russia, Russia is training Iranians on the use of sophisticated surface-to-air missiles, to be delivered to Iran contingent upon the deployment of America's Patriots in Poland.

And it looks like the fuse has been lit that will blow up the Korean Peninsula.

The US and NATO are also building up a strike force in the Black Sea and conducting war games there. Meanwhile, nuclear-armed Pakistan and India are at it again in Kashmir. And the United States is actually contemplating an attack on Pakistan.

The distraction to which we have subjected ourselves is by design. For example, General Electric is one of the top defense contractors. Their slogan used to be: “We bring good things to life.” Catchy phrase, that was. Incidentally, GE one of the “good things” they bring to life are components for nuclear weapons. Not coincidently, GE also owns NBC and in partnership with Microsoft MSNBC. So, think about it: While networks like NBC are pumping out mindless trivia and info-tainment, creating an incessant white noise backdrop, their parent company is paving the road to Armageddon by supplying the most fiendish weapons imaginable.

Not all pop-culture is a mindless distraction though. Bob Dylan at least asked the relevant question in one of his songs: “Can you tell me where were head’n, Lincoln County Road or Armageddon? Well, the answer ain't just blowing in the wind, Bob. We are on the road to Armageddon and Lindsay Lohan was just a distracting billboard we passed on the way.

“Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty…Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.” – Revelation 16:13-16
