What is a world web directory?

If you have used the internet in the past few years, than you have probably come across a word web directory.  Even if you don’t know what this is, chances are that you have seen one and even used one without even realizing it.  What is a world web directory?

A web directory is a website that has been created to hold a large directory of websites based on categories or other separation methods.  Just like the yellow pages that hold tons of information about businesses with contact information, a world web directory has direct links to websites that have been stored on the directory.  Why would you need to use a world web directory?  The main reason is because the directory is an easy way to find what you are looking for instead of searching on a search engine. The reason for this is because these world web directories are categorized so you can hurry and find the category you are searching in, and then just check out the sites within the category to see if they contain the things you are looking for.

On top of word web directories being useful, there are several types of directories.  Some directories charge money to list while others are free.  Of course listing your business website on a free directory makes sense, but why on earth would you pay to add your URL listing to a pay directory?  The reason is because these pay directories usually get insanely large amounts of traffic.  Because of this, the directory creators charge to list your URL so that they can get a small cut as you will probably see huge profits because of the large amount of people that will be visiting your site and buying your products.  The easiest way to think about this is to think about the phone books you have at your house.  The yellow pages are extremely well known and most people use it.

If you put your directory in the yellow pages you would probably see a greater result than putting it in a no name free directory that hardly anyone uses.  This analogy is exactly the same with a world web directory.  The directories that get high amounts of traffic are the ones that will benefit your business the most, but they usually charge a little bit to list so they can continue to be on the top of their game as far as keeping the high amounts of traffic that visit the directory. If you are looking to increase traffic, listing on a world web directory is a great place to start.
