Over the past few years, Bass fishing has increasingly become a popular sport in America. Both websites and magazines dedicated to the subject have sprouted up all over to cater to the newfound interest. Many of us are now well informed about which lakes are the best in the US for scheduling your Bass fishing trips, but what about those anglers interested in planning a trip to Mexico?
Quickly catching up in its reputation for great fishing opportunities, Mexico is one of the best places in the world to fine tune your Bass fishing skills. With the many roads leading to many lakes and lodges with easy access to fishing, Mexico is gaining reputation as a fishman’s dream destination. Although there are many lakes I could report are ideal destinations, here are the top three when it comes to Bass fishing.
Lake Agua Milpa
This lake opened officially in 1997 for Bass fishing and spans over 70,000 acres. Why has this lake made the grade on the list? Simple. The sheer amount of fish that you can catch, including some Bass that have been reported to weigh as much as ten pounds. Additionally, Agua Milpa is relatively easy to gain access to when considering other remote lakes. This lake is a 3 hour drive from Guadalajara where you can stay in a beautiful lodge with an amazing view of green mountains.
Lake Baccarac
Another lake right out of paradise where you can find rather large Bass is Lake Baccarac. One of the most popular lakes in Mexico, Lake Baccarac has an official recorded weight record of 19.1 pounds for bass. But you never know, there could be an even bigger one out there waiting for you as this is just the “official” record as recorded by the lodge. A quick word with the local fishermen around the area will have you looking out for Bass weighing as much as 24 pounds.
Lake Huites
Last but certainly not least when it comes to Bass fishing destinations is Lake Huites on the West Coast of Mexico within the Sierra Madre Mountains. This lake is spread over an area of 30,000 acres and is stocked with Floridian Largemouth bass and plenty of them. Expect a fishing trip at Lake Huites to end with at least a ten pound Bass or two. In fact, the guides in that area report that it is not an uncommon day to see 80 to 100 fish caught each day per boat!
