Leather sofa is luxury furniture that we all love to have. It is more like an investment when you purchase a leather sofa as it will be used for so many years. Of course it will have to be maintained properly. Dirt can easily go on leather and also can become cracked if the leather sofa is exposed to heat over a period of time. If you use leather cleaning products and clean your leather sofa regularly, you are doing your best to protect your leather sofa.

Here are some ways you can protect your leather sofa:

Use the protectant:

It is usually in a form of spray or oil. You can apply this protectant in your leather sofa once a month, so that it ensures protection against the moisture. There are different brands and types of leather protectants. Therefore you have to choose the protectant that matches the leather type in your leather sofa.

Place your leather sofa away from extreme temperatures:

Heat is one of the dangerous factors that may harm your leather sofa. Place your leather sofa at least two feet away from your fire place or the radiator. Also avoid direct sun light. If you keep your leather sofa open to extreme heat it will get faded over time.

It is not only about the heat that you have to worry about but also the cold. Do not place your leather sofa right under your air conditioner. If you place your leather sofa under your air conditioner, it will get cracks over time.

Avoid smoking on the leather sofa or near the leather sofa:

No matter whether it is the butt of the cigarette or the ashes, both will cause burns. There is a risk of fire when you smoke on the leather sofa and also will damage the sofa if the ashes go down to leather. Any ways we all know smoking is not good for our health as well!

Keep sharp objects away:

Sharp objects that have pointers such as knives, scissors and screwdrivers should not be kept near the leather sofa. Not only that stuff but even a key can damage the leather sofa. So watch out when you have keys in your belt or in your pocket.

Do not keep liquids on or near the leather sofa:

Do not keep liquids such as water or fruit juice near the leather sofa. If you have kids, never let them have their meals on the leather sofa, because they will definitely spill. Also never let your kids do their painting on the leather sofa. Even if they are using drawing books, they will still draw on the leather sofa. If something spill, make sure that you clean it with a dry cloth immediately.

If you follow the above points, your leather sofa is most like to last a long period of time.
