There are many techniques for creating abstract photography images. This article will cover four of them (blur, zooming in, partial image, and Photoshop filters. Once the techniques have been mastered, they can be applied to various subject matter to create amazing abstract images.

Blur

The blurring of objects is the first technique which will be covered. Not all images work well with this technique. The images that do work best are the ones that have a dreamy feel. As a result, it is important to choose the subject matter very carefully. Consequently, the more carefully the subject matter is selected, the better the final results.

There are numerous approaches to this technique. One approach is to use a soft focus lens. Affixing a soft focus filter to a regular lens produces a similar effect. If you would prefer to save some money, panty hose stretched over the front of a lens also works. Needless to say, the blur can always be added during image editing with Photoshop (or any other editing software).

Zooming In

As the technique's name suggests, this technique requires a zoom lens. This technique employs a long shutter speed. While the shutter is open, the focal length of the lens is altered.

Keeping in mind a few points can help create superior images. It is crucial to utilize a tripod when using the zoom technique. Otherwise, there will be blurring brought on by camera movement during the exposure. A strong center of interest is necessary. Without a strong center of interest, the photo just ends up being a blur of lines with very little to take hold of the viewer's interest.

Trial and error is part of this technique. Many photos will, most likely, be taken to produce one eye-catching image. This is just part of the procedure.

Photographing a Partial Object

With this technique, the whole object is not photographed. Rather, this technique requires that the photographer segregate and photograph just a portion of an object. The best thing to do is to isolate a portion of an object that is particularly intriguing. By using only a section of the object, some mystique is created.

Utilizing Photoshop Filters

Another approach is to add the abstract effect in the computer. For this approach, Photoshop can be used. Photoshop has numerous filters that can be utilized for this. Just use the Filter menu to gain access to the filters. The best way to create a great abstract image, with this technique, is to just play with the different filter options. After you are done experimenting, you can pick the filter that created the most intriguing results. Then, you can use that filter for the final image.

Wrap Up

Each of these techniques can produce excellent abstract photos. All you need to do now is grab your camera and go create some images. Although these techniques give you a great start with abstract photography, there is considerably more that can be learned about the subject.
