Deep Sea Fishing

Once you became interested in fishing you began to research it a little bit.  After a while of exploring your options you decided that deep sea fishing was for you.  You even built your own deep sea fishing boat and are ready to justify the expense by reeling in some deep sea fish!

So how does one go about finding where the fish are at in that massive ocean?  True, you could always choose to follow other boats, but you are looking to do this independently.  Take a look up at the sky and scan the horizon for seagulls or other sea birds.  These birds usually feed on small bait fish.  This means that if you see these animals lingering in a certain area, there is most likely a close food source.  If there is a close food source, this means that most likely there will be fish feeding from underneath as well.

If it is Snook that you are after, you will want to look around posts, rocks or reefs.  Keep in mind to be aware of any possible snags when doing so however.  If you are after Stripers, try using softer imitation crab meat for your bait.  It is said that this could work particularly well during a full moon as that is when crab tend to shed their shells.

If it is tuna or yellowfish that you want to catch, you can find them lingering around dolphins.  Of course locating a rather large reef will usually help you in finding some rather large fish as they tend to like to feed off of the smaller fish that stay in that area as well.

As you can see, getting clues as to where to begin your deep sea fishing adventure isn’t as hard as it may seem at first.  Once you have decided that you are in a decent spot, just drop your anchor and enjoy the day.  If you or someone you are with is prone to motion sickness, consider packing some anti-nausea medication before you set out.  Keep away from any boat fumes and concentrate on the horizon if you find yourself still a bit queasy.

Now that you have an idea of what fishing on the sea will be like, it is time to plan your first trip.  Decide on a boating plan and be sure to pack everything you will need.  It won’t be long before you have your first deep sea catch!
