Sometimes, it's better to have a quiet party than a big one. But you still need a focus, a theme, an idea. How about a game night?
Everyone loves a large, fun party, with lots of good food, many guests to meet and mingle with, and high energy levels from all the party-goers. Sometimes though, it’s just as fun to organize a quiet night in with close friends or few neighborhood families. After a long week at work or school, why don’t you host a Game Night? This will allow you to catch up with friends you may not have seen in a while, while you enjoy a laid-back evening at home.

Hosting a Game Night is a quite simple task. Part of the ease of planning is that there are so many different games and activities you can organize so you and your guests will never be bored. In fact, your party may run late because everyone is so engrossed in the game at hand!

Invite your guests using fun invitations designed to look like popular board games. If you have particular games you would like to play, design each guest’s invitation to look like one of those games, and request that the guest brings it with them the day of the party.

Of course, your game list will vary depending on the general age of the guests attending. If you have quite a few children, you may want to consider games or activities that involve moving around, as children can get antsy after sitting for long periods of time. Dominos is a good option; guests of all ages can participate in building the Domino course and children love watching the blocks be knocked over. Alternatively, many games come in both adult and children’s versions, so you don’t have to worry about trivia questions that are too difficult or directions that are difficult for children to understand.

Food choices are easy to come up with for a Game Night, no matter if your guests are young or old, families or friends. The whole point of this type of party is to keep things simple, so limit your refreshments to finger foods. Have plenty of crisps and dips, mini pizzas and burgers, popcorn or pretzels, chicken fingers, and cheese cubes. Set up a buffet table in the corner of the room and make sure it is well-stocked with paper plates, paper cups, and napkins. This will allow your guests to easily help themselves to snacks in between turns or games. If you don’t have much time to prepare for the party, have each guest bring a different type of food, such as an appetizer, main course, or desert tray. This will ensure you have a variety of items available, as well as taking some of the pressure off you as the host!

So as you can see, planning and organizing a Game Night theme party for friends and families can be an easy task, especially if you request that guests contribute a game or food item. Just make sure you end up with variety of games and plenty of snacks!
