Many people are in awe when they see inline skaters whizzing through parks or even along streets. They envy not only the skater’s obvious skill, but also the notion of being able to reach a destination so quickly and in a way that helps keep the skater physically fit. The good news is that people of all ages are capable of learning to roller skate and that that inline skater could soon be you.

Roller skating is recommended by many health experts as a very effective way of keeping fit and of improving both muscle tone and cardio-vascular performance. Roller skating has also proven to be extremely beneficial in relieving stress and other mental anxieties. It is also, one or two odd bye-laws notwithstanding, generally permitted in most public places including parks.

Recreational inline skates, or rollerblades, skates with wheels positioned in a single line, are ultimately the best roller skates to use for this type of skating since they achieve higher speeds more quickly and easily. Many novice skaters, however, tend to find they can start to learn more easily and with more stability by wearing quad roller skates - skates with two rows of wheels.

The wearing of full safety gear, including helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards is of course essential, whether the skater is a beginner or more experienced. Reflective clothing is also recommended during dusk and other dull or dark periods. Finally, there are many skating training course available locally. All that is usually required to attend such courses is the ability to stand and move unaided whilst wearing the skates, and to be able to stop.

At Skates.co.uk we have a wide range of great value roller skates in a number of attractive designs. We can help find the right pair for any beginner.
