We have entirely been there, you are on a long drive and
before too long you start to get sleepy and feel yourself beginning to nod off.
That is potentially such a dangerous situation and has been compared to the
same as driving drunk. Here are 10 helpful tips on that will help you stay
awake if you find yourself starting to get drowsy while driving.
1. As soon as you feel yourself starting to get tired when
driving look for the nearest location where you can pull off for a short while.
It is always most amazing to try and not fight it-you will only uphold to get
sleepier. If you can pull off somewhere, do it as fast as you can. Get out of
the car and walk around, move your arms and body around... anything to get
yourself out of the stupor. When you feel you are awake enough then get back to
driving. If you can afford the time (and you should because your life might
depend on it) find a place where you can pull over and take a short nap to refresh
yourself.
2. Turn on the air conditioned in the car and direct it to
blow on your face. It doesn't matter how cold it is outside-cooling down the
interior temperature of your car will help make it less warm and cozy and wake
you up. Along with the same lines, open your car windows and let fresh air come
blasting in.
3. If you have anything to drink that with caffeine in it
this would be a good time. Just remember it can take 15 minutes or more for the
caffeine jolt to kick in.
4. Eating ice can be helpful for staying awake while
driving. Stop at your nearest fast food area and order a cup of ice. The act of
chewing the ice and the coldness going into our system will help wake you up.
5. If you have passengers in the car with you make sure at
least one of them <a

to talk with you as you drive. There is nothing more conducive that will cause
a driver to fall asleep at the wheel than having a car full of passengers all
asleep.
6. Turn on the radio and tune it to a station playing upbeat
music. (Talk radio and easy listening music can sometimes contribute to
drowsiness.) When you find a good station turn it up loud and sing along with
the music. Nod your head as you sing. This will help shake up your body and
increase oxygen; this will start moving the blood around and aid to <a

you up</a>.
7. If at all possible try to avoid driving among midnight
and 6 a.m. This is the time period your body mostly associates with sleeping
(for most people).
8. Schedule frequent stops where you can get out of the car
and walk around.
9. Try to avoid driving when you have taken medicine. Many
medications can make a person drowsy and that will not help at all when
driving.
10. Try to get a good night's sleep before a long drive.
