Are you going camping? Read this article first so you know the unwritten rules.
Anyone who has been camping will know that proper etiquette is a key part of the experience. No matter which campsite you choose, there will likely be a neighbour somewhere nearby. And even if you don’t have anyone in the campsite next to you, you will still have to keep an eye on following the rules of the site. You should never look at having to follow camping etiquette as a burden; rather it’s a chance to make sure that people work together to preserve the natural environment around them. So if you are about to go camping for the first time, here are some tips to keep in mind so that everyone at your campsite will have the best time possible.
1. Make sure to stay to the limits of your given site, and that includes trails and paths. You never want to wander onto anyone else campsite as this would be akin to walking into someone’s backyard. And make sure to stick to designated trails as this will ensure that you stay safe while doing as little damage as possible to the natural surroundings.
2. If you have a pet them make sure you keep in under control. No one wants to camp next to an animal that runs around everywhere or makes noise at night. Some campers even buy cheap tents" for the specific purpose of keeping their pet contained.
3. Bring your own supply of firewood or coals for your BBQ, and never chop down trees from the surrounding forest.
4. Take an inventory of your basic camping supplies" before you leave on your trip, and make sure to share with your neighbours if they need help. Camping is no time to be stingy and you want to make sure your neighbours are in no danger of running out of food or other supplies.
5. Always remember to leave the campsite as you found it. That means you should pick up your trash and recycle when appropriate. Remember, there will be people staying there after so don’t leave the site in disarray for the next party to find.
