Do you love cooking? Here's a handy article to make sure you do it safely.

The kitchen can be one of the most fun rooms in any household where families can enjoy quality time together. However, there is no other room that presents as much danger in terms of sharp utensils or appliances that generate intense heat. The best way to enjoy your kitchen is to make sure that safety comes before anything else. That starts with making sure you have a good smoke detector firmly installed. You should test your detector on a regular basis and always keep fresh batteries in good supply. Hopefully you have the cooking skills necessary so that you won’t ever produce enough smoke to set off a detector, but anything can happen and you’ll be glad you were prepared for any emergency situation.

You should never leave your food unattended in your oven, even if you are cooking with something like an electric oven" that doesn’t require constant supervision. Don’t rely solely on a programmable timer to let you know when to come back into the kitchen or you may return only to find a cloud of smoke. Newer appliances like halogen ovens" give the convenience of being able to see through the glass casing, so all it takes it the occasional peek to make sure your meal is going according to plan. You should also avoid cooking at extremely high temperatures when possible. Just because an oven has a high broil setting doesn’t mean you should leave it on for too long.

When you are cooking on a range or stove, you want to keep things as uncluttered as possible. Things can get out of control quickly so try to limit the number of pots and pans you use. You can also cook more efficiently if you use one pan, and it will certainly cut down on the number of dishes you need to clean at the end of the night. And always take care to keep a handle on splashing if you are deep frying at high temperatures. Taking efforts to ensure your hair and clothing stay away from open flames will allow you to avoid some truly dangerous situations. Better yet, take some time to invest in a fire extinguisher and keep it handy somewhere in your kitchen. Evidently, a lot about kitchen safety has to do with planning for unwanted situations. But making sure you have safety precautions in place will allow you to cook at your best without having to worry about hurting yourself.
