Making Your Backyard Memorable with Water Features

Water features are one of the most important additions you can make to your backyard to make it truly memorable. A koi pond, swimming pool, fountain or simple garden pond adds a touch of class and a sense of tranquillity to a space. You and your guests will be better able to relax with the help of the sound of softly flowing water in your garden.

When choosing a water feature for your garden design, you must first decide where you will place it. Do you have a lot of open space that would accommodate a pond, or would a stand-alone fountain be better? Then, decide what your budget is. A small statue with a fountain in it does not cost much at all, while a pond stocked with shimmering koi represents a sizeable investment.

Once you have your location and your budget in mind, you must decide your style. Do you prefer something that blends in with the natural look of your garden? If so, then a decorative fountain or pond waterfall that looks like natural rock would work well. You may also like the look of a terracotta urn with water pouring out of the side. If you prefer something more whimsical, a statue of playing children with a fountain inside may be the right touch. For something more modern, choose a stainless steel water feature. Some of these modern pieces even come with LED lighting to add colour to the design once the sun sets.

Finally, consider the amount of maintenance you wish to put into your water feature. You can make your backyard memorable without a lot of work on your part with a fountain, or you can build your own hobby by putting in a stocked pond that will need care and maintenance. The choice is up to you, but whatever you decide, adding a water feature will round out the backyard landscape design you have been working so hard to perfect.
