No matter what type of vehicle you drive chances are that with a few modifications, either to your vehicle or to your driving, you can reduce your fuel consumption.
And with fuel prices on the rise this is something that most drivers should be considering.
So here are a few fuel-saving tips to put you on the right track to better fuel efficiency.
1. Firstly, pace yourself when you are driving. The best way to reduce fuel consumption is to reduce your speed. This may not be the coolest way to use less fuel but it is one of the best ways, so perhaps reduce speed by a few MPH and save money.
2. You should also check your tyre pressure. Under-inflated tyres can seriously decrease your MPG this is because they increase resistance against the road, which then burns more fuel than fully inflated tyres. As pressure decreases over the month you should check your tyre pressure at least once in that period.
3. Regularly check your air filter. A blocked filter restricts air from going to the engine, which in turn affects performance and fuel economy. Just remember if light gets through its still quite new.
4. Switch off the mod-cons. Try opening a window instead of putting on the A.C., this will not only cool you down but it will also let that fresh summer breeze into the car. And it will also put less of a strain on your energy and increase fuel consumption.
5. Make sure there is no unnecessary weight in the car. By filling the boot and keeping it that way you can have an extra 40 or 50 lbs of dead-weight. All that this extra weight does is increase fuel-consumption, so clean out the boot and start saving the pounds-and-pence.
6. Downsize. If you are in the market for a new car then perhaps get a smaller and more fuel efficient model. Perhaps something like the
Ford KA hatchback.
By following these top tips you should save fuel, money and even the planet.
