We’re playing with gas here!Be careful.ALWAYS open the hood first before lighting your gas grill.Think about it… If you have the hood down and turn on the burners, you’ll be filling an enclosed area with gas. Then if you were to push the starter…. BANG! ALWAYS, and I repeat, ALWAYS open the hood first.
Now, if your igniter isn’t working don’t panic! You can always light your grill the old fashioned way… with a match. These always work unless there is some other problem going on.
Some barbecues, like the PGS and Broilmaster have a hole in the side of the bowl in which you can put a match while others like the Lynx, Twin Eagles, Fire Magic and American Outdoor Grill have spots on the grill where you can insert a match. The warning here is… MATCH FIRST!Again, you don’t want to fill an area with gas and then light the match.Think about it!
The point is that you should learn your grill.
Now, if the fire does not start right away, turn the gas off, allow the gas to dissipate for a minute and then retry. The wind may pose particular problems, but be patient.Again, be careful!
At Wilshire Fireplace Shops we sell several different types of butane lighters which make manual lighting of your grills an easy job.
We also have other accessories for barbecuing like vegetable grids, kabob racks, beer can chicken racks, lights and toolsets to make your grilling experience a lot of fun.
Watch your grill when using it.A gas grill can rage out of control if left alone for very long. Why? This is simple. While cooking, the meat will release fatty juices. These juices will drip to the rocks, briquettes or metal plates below and continue to build up. After a while, these juices will seep down and finally come in direct contact with the flame. At that point the juices become fuel and flare up! Once that begins, if you don’t turn down the heat or move the food over the flare up you’ll toast your food.Watch what you’re doing!
