Psychological Role of Muscle Building

Muscle building does not simply mean trying to look like an Arnold Schwarzenegger; it simply means that sometimes men and women want to look strong to feel strong.

Muscle building as a psychological crutch is a misunderstood need. There are some people who do not grow up gracefully, they don’t normally grow into muscle men with the smooth muscles and the six pack. Most of us men get to be adults looking wimpy, sorry, but that is the truth. Men get to look physically good and attractive because they work at it.

There is no help from any form of media either. Women love movies where men look like those actors in “300,” like a werewolf called “Jacob,” like the superhero called “Green Lantern,” or any other guys in the movies and television who make the women drool. Then there are the romance novels which portray all men to be attractive if they look like Fabio. Women’s tastes literally got spoiled and it was left to the men to live up to the impossible, hence muscle building for wimpy men. But are they really wimpy?

For some people who are ruled by media, anyone without a six pack looks wimpy and that is totally unfair. Unknown to the general public, a man has to have the right genes to get the six packs. If the man does not carry it, he can work out till he drops and still not develop them. He may get the lean physique, but not the crucial one.

So men go and work out. There are a lot of benefits to this preoccupation: healthier bodies, healthier diet and nutrition, better looking bodies and definitely more attractive. The benefits to muscle building all boils down to one thing: better health. So when men are healthy, they actually look good, and when they look good they feel better and they show that confidence in their bodies.

The psychological need to look muscular is not just found in men, however, it is also found among women. No, not the six pack, but the healthy lean body that glows from the inside out. And a healthy body makes them more attractive.
