If you are in the market for a new fly fishing chest back, always keep in mind that not all of these pieces of gear are going to be similar in quality. In order to be sure that you avoid the seemingly attractive lower prices of lesser packs you must be aware of what it is that you tend to bring with you on each fishing trip. Once you do this, you will better be able to choose out the chest pack that will work the best for you.

When shopping for fly fishing packs, be mindful of the products that are attractive to the eye yet priced extremely low.  These are the products that will usually end up breaking or failing on you mid-season.  While eye catching, cheaper models may at first seem like the way to go, the simple fact remains that a quality fly fishing vest cannot be purchased for what seems like very little money.  Once you have recognized this, make a list of what fishing gear, equipment and other items you will want to have with you on your trip.  Your list could consist of pliers, clippers, extra leaders and line, sunglasses and a fly pouch.  Many manufacturers that make high end products are well aware that you will want to store these things in your vest and have incorporated this need into the design of their products.

After you have looked over a few vests and have narrowed it down a bit, compare your list of items that you bring with you to the compartments that the vests you are interested in provides.  At the very least, you will not want to be without extra leaders and line, pliers, clippers, your fly pouch and most likely some sunglasses.  Make sure there is room to fit all of these specific pieces that will be easy for you to both store and retrieve them from your vest.

As long as you are happy with the compartments as well as the quality of your vest, you are sure to end up with the best vest your money can buy.  Choose from standard vests that are able to let air breathe through the fabric and keep you cool on the warm, summer fishing expeditions or perhaps a vest that serves more like a backpack might and is able to carry a large amount of gear.  However, if you don’t tend to bring with you very many tools, you may even want to consider purchasing a fly fishing fanny pack.  As long as you are well aware of what you will want to have with you and you don’t get enticed into spending your money on a lesser quality vest, you will no doubt find the perfect vest for you that will come with you on fishing trips for many years to come.
