The open road is a much cherished thing. Who doesn’t love the sound of a purring engine and the vibrations of a heady breeze sweeping through the windows of a four-door?
The open road is a much cherished thing. Who doesn’t love the sound of a purring engine and the vibrations of a heady breeze sweeping through the windows of a four-door?

So what’s the appeal of fast cars and speedy vehicles that glimmer in the light of the midnight moon? It’s the glamour of course. The sheer glamour of owning smooth bonneted car capable of careering down the nearest high street is the driving force behind the acquisition of many a vehicle by lovers of four-wheeled transportation systems. Men are often considered the most noted members of society to take pleasure from purchasing or leasing a new car but the appeal spreads across the sexes.

The type of vehicle you own is often indicative of the lifestyle you live, the job you hold and the people you take company with (whether right or wrong). A fancy banker living the high life and raking in a veritable treasure chest of cash will be well placed to buy a Ferrari, Bentley or Aston Martin but a cash till operator working at the local petrol station may be hard pressed to get their hands on a used Corsa.

However, there are a number of people out there who don’t follow the glamour principle and would much rather buy a cheaper car so they can spend their hard-earned salary somewhere else. Buying a car outright can be extremely difficult for cash strapped individuals even in the case of second hand vehicles. That’s why leasing has become ever more popular in today’s recession marred climate – a monthly repayment can be a manageable sum and won’t put too much stress on a dwindling bank balance.

But at the end of the day, whether a car is owned or leased, a Peugeot or a Proton, the glamour of the vehicle is never lost. For a first time driver a ramshackle fifty year old car can be as glamorous as Marilyn Monroe and as stylish as Audrey Hepburn. The beauty is of course, in the eye of the beholder.
