History is a subject that is important to Mr. Brill. Morris Brill loves History, and in fact, he has been collecting newspapers for the last 47 years.
But his newspaper collection goes much farther back than 47 years. Mr. Brill doesn’t just collect newspapers. He collects newspapers of great historical significance
From the Battle of Quebec, to Washington crossing the Delaware…from the death of Benjamin Franklin to the Wright brothers first flying machine, and everything else in between, Mr. Brill’s newspaper collection dates back to 1757 and goes to 2009.
When I first came to Morris Brill’s website, I immediately felt like I was looking at something from another era. The beige background on the Homepage made me feel as though I was reading a very
old newspaper that had turned brown with age. The photograph of Morris Brill on the upper right hand side, in shades of brown, is reminiscent of old photos before the days of color printing.
This amazing website captures three centuries of
history in journalistic print and pictures. As Mr. Brill so aptly points out on his website “Journalists write the first draft of history.” Morris Brill’s newspaper website documents history when it actually occurred, not when it was revised.
This website has newspaper headlines in chronological order, grouped in time periods so visitors can easily find what they're looking for. But to me, the most fascinating thing about this website, is that many of the headlines are links to actual photographs of the newspaper itself. Many of these newpaper photos are clear and close-up enough that you can actually read the paper. And you can click to read the next page.
When I read a newspaper about Washington crossing the Delaware, I feel as if I am transported to a different time, and I am reading current events.
The website includes historical pictures such as Amelia Earhart ‘First Woman to Solo Flight across the Atlantic Ocean’ and other historical pictures. The website also has links to Memorials, Humor, and notable Quotes.
Anyone who loves history would greatly enjoy this website. I would also recommend this website to Homeschoolers in their study of history. History teachers would do well to direct their students to this website, to help their subject come to life for their students.
