A clean car can make the longest journey seem pleasurable. Taking the time out to wash the exterior of your vehicle and setting aside a few moments to organise the interior will keep you in good stead for the driving days ahead.
A clean car can make the longest journey seem pleasurable. Taking the time out to wash the exterior of your vehicle and setting aside a few moments to organise the interior will keep you in good stead for the driving days ahead.

Start with the inside of the car first. Throw out any unwanted papers, food packets or office documents that are scattered across the back seats. Be sure to take a look in the glove compartment because that is another area that is prone to collecting rubbish and long-forgotten items.

Clean the dashboard with a dry cloth to wipe away dirt. Buff the area up with a dust removing spray and don’t forget to clean the steering wheel! Spray window cleaner or neat vinegar on the inside of the windows and windscreen and rub in a circular motion with another dry cloth.

The next step is to get to grips with vacuuming the interior seats and carpet. This can be difficult depending on the shape and size of your vehicle. Use the vacuum pipe on the seats to suck up any bits of food crumbs or mud.

There’s definitely something to be said for washing your car using the good old fashioned bucket and sponge method. It’s satisfying and a fabulous way to utilise a Sunday morning. Getting the kids to help out can make it into a fun family experience. Driving your car through a car wash just doesn’t have the same effect and it costs a lot more that a squeeze of washing up liquid, a splash of water and some elbow grease. So get stuck in and clean those wheels with aplomb. If you’re lucky enough to have a hosepipe, wash the car clean with plenty of fresh running water at the very end.
