Find out how to take control of your time and your life and manage your business or job more easily. Learn about effective planning, avoiding timewasters and lots more tips for making time your best friend.
During
my career as a business coach, I have come across many business owners and executive
managers who find it really hard to manage their time effectively. I have also seen
that the successful business owners and managers are not always the busiest
people in the world. In fact, many business owners and managers who are better off
in their careers are able to find more time for themselves and their family.
I
will share some of the key points that will help you manage your business or
job more easily and get the maximum benefits from the time on hand.
Proper Planning:
Proper
planning is the key to effective time management. It
is very important to plan out your goals and identify the steps that you need
to take to achieve those goals. If you know exactly what you are trying to
achieve, then you will be able to focus better on achieving those targets.
Secondly,
you should keep track of your day to day activities and monitor if you are
moving in the right direction. The best way to keep track of your activities is
by using time management tools like planners or diaries. This can help you follow
your schedule better and focus on issues that need your attention.
You
should also understand that even if you plan things effectively, there will be
instances where an unexpected situation may arise, so be prepared to alter your
actions according to the situation.
Prioritizing your tasks:
There
are several small tasks that you need to perform daily but the important thing
is to prioritize these tasks. It is certainly important to identify what needs
to be done on a particular day but it is more important to understand the
rationale behind doing those things.
Schedule your priorities, don’t prioritize your schedule. In other words decide what is important first
then determine your schedule.
Many
people continue to waste their time in doing things that are not significant
for their business. Those need to be identified and eliminated from your daily
routine.
Avoiding unnecessary interruptions:
There
are many unnecessary activities that may be keeping you from being as
productive as you wish to be. These distracting interruptions may include
irrelevant telephone calls, emails, unnecessary meetings etc.
You
can only avoid these interruptions if you understand the importance of your own
time. Learn to say “No” and delegate as much as possible.
Overcoming the feeling
of overwhelm
It is easy to feel overwhelmed
when you have many responsibilities so keep reminding yourself that you cannot
solve your problems by worrying about them. Invest your time and energy in
identifying the solutions to your problems, then take decisive action. Worrying
and waiting will only complicate things further and impact negatively on your
health and mental state.
If
you follow these simple tips, then I am sure that time will become your best
friend rather than the worst enemy. You will be able to get the best out of
each day and more importantly, get more time for yourself and your family.
