Decompression therapy is a means of relieving severe pain in the back, neck or associated area that is due to problems with the spinal cord.

Decompression therapy is a way of stretching the spinal cord so that pressure on nerves – and thus, pain - is relieved. It is a viable option to spinal decompression surgery with its associated risks. While it may not be suited to all kinds of back problems, there are many that can be helped by its application.

Spinal decompression therapy is the ideal back treatment for sciatica pain, disc disease and degenerative disc disease, chronic neck pain and lumbar pain. All such problems cause a great deal of spinal back pain and patients may have tried to get lower back pain relief, neck pain relief or sciatica pain relief by a number of other ways. Some have been on pain killers for years for sciatica treatment, but as we know, such medication is not good for you and can cause more problems.

There are not many other forms of sciatica pain treatment or spinal treatment that do not include invasive surgeries of some kind. However surgery has its own set of risks and does not always deliver what is promised. Patients go through with it out of desperation, hoping that such low back pain treatment will actually work to stop their constant lumbar back pain or pain in other areas of the back or neck.

The problems that can be treated with spinal decompression are often caused by poor posture, repetitive stress injury, bad body mechanics, or any other acute injury such as from a fall or car accident. You would need to consult with a decompression specialist to find out if your back pain may be helped with this kind of spine treatment.

Such treatment cannot just be undertaken once for expected relief, but it works over a process of time with several treatments. These could be two or three per week for several weeks, or maybe just one a week, depending on the injury. Over time, such stretching will allow the different parts of the body to re-adjust to their normal healthy position that is pain free – how nature intended it to be.
