The rapid growth of certified medical assistant opportunities has caused medical assistant courses to include many more responsibilities than simply taking temperatures and drawing blood. A good school will provide students with a well-rounded course that focuses on improving their skills, while introducing students to an ever increasing number of medical specialties that could become part of their future employment.

Medical assistant schools offer programs that can be completed in one or two years. A certified medical assistant student is wise to continue this education because it can go a long way towards determining advancement opportunities. Some assistants get by relying just on experience and medical knowledge picked up along the way. But to become a certified medical assistant, applicants must complete an accredited medical assistance training program, and then pass a test given by the National Board of Medical Examiners or some other accredited association.

Advancement comes with experience and additional training, especially in the clinical field. Some colleges have created special courses to meet with the extra study needed by certified medical assistants. Job prospects are excellent for medical assistants, and those with certification can expect to draw the best offers from the best medical facilities.

The more training you have, the better your chances for advancement and salary increases at your current job will be.
